Literature in the political field of tension between narrative and protocol

Reading and discussion with Kathrin Röggla and Anna Yeliz Schentke

Moderated by Till van Rahden

For some years now, the term 'fake news' has been used to describe a practice of reinterpreting reality that is used by populists to convince the public of their 'truths' - above all Donald Trump, who is currently running for the US presidency again. In this way, fictions are created through the targeted use of narratives in political and social reality, which are widely disseminated by the media. How does contemporary literature react to this fictionalisation of political and social events? The authors Kathrin Röggla and Anna Yeliz Schentke see an answer in literary testimony and the power of protocol. Together with historian Till van Rahden, they explore the question of what literature has to offer in response to current political, social and media narratives.

WORTMELDUNGEN is a programme of the Crespo Foundation.

Registration is requested.
