Have your drawings ever made sounds? What does a line sound like, and can patterns and shapes become sounds? What happens when, instead of looking at images, we perform them? Can we make music from the things we see?
In this interactive workshop, we will explore these questions together with artist Mareike Dobewall and discover how observations from our surroundings can be transformed into sounds and shared musical experiments.
Mareike Dobewall’s ‘Glenkeen Nature Score Leporello’ demonstrates how observations from nature can be transformed into visual scores. The drawings on display translate the slow growth of lichen, the tumbling of shells in the sea, and the patterns on seashells into musical notation.
In the workshop, children and teenagers aged 8 to 15 explore the leporello and develop their own scores together. Patterns and shapes found in and around the Crespo Open Space become instructions for sounds. The resulting drawings are brought together to create a collaborative collage score, which is performed at the end of the workshop using simple materials and objects.
The workshop will be held in German. Support in English is available.
