Until 25 May 2025, you can visit the exhibition ‘After Nature . Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize 24’ at the Crespo Open Space.

Through their artistic work, the prizewinners Laura Huertas Millán and Sarker Protick look at a nature whose condition is inextricably interwoven with the social and political manifestations of our lifestyles.

Programme

At 2 pm, students from the Städelschule will present their video works in a public screening titled ‘Inversion in a Circle’. The works were developed during a practice-based workshop led by artist Laura Huertas Millán. By exploring the relationship between vegetal life and the moving image, the workshop sought to question the anthropocentric perspective of the media.

At 4 pm, there will be an artist tour with award-winner Laura Huertas Millán, accompanied by curator Ben Livne Weitzman. The tour will be held in English.

As part of the finissage, the exhibition will be open from 11 am to 7 pm.

Laura Huertas Millán (*1983, Colombia) is, together with Sarker Protick, the first winner of the ‘After Nature . Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize’, which we launched in collaboration with C/O Berlin.

She is an artist and filmmaker. She has a PhD from Université PSL (SACRe program) in Paris, which she developed at the Sensory Ethnography Lab at Harvard University. Her films have been shown at leading world cinema festivals and awarded prizes at the Locarno Film Festival, FIDMarseille, Doclisboa in Lisbon, and Videobrasil in São Paulo. She has had solo exhibitions at the MASP São Paulo, the Maison des Arts de Malakoff, and the Museum of Modern Art in Medellín. Her films have also been exhibited and screened at the Centre Pompidou and the Jeu de Paume in Paris, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Times Art Center Berlin, and presented at biennials such as the Liverpool Biennial, FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art, the Videonale in Bonn, and the Sharjah Biennial. She lives and works in France.

Together with C/O Berlin, the Crespo Foundation has launched the ‘After Nature . Ulrike Crespo Photography Prize’. Since 2024, the prize has been awarded annually to two international artists who use photography and image-based media to respond to the changing ecology of the present and explore new concepts of nature and art.

With Laura Huertas Millán (*1983, Colombia) and Sarker Protick (*1986, Bangladesh), the Crespo Foundation is presenting the 2024 prizewinners, whose artistic works look at a nature whose condition is inextricably interwoven with the social and political manifestations of our lifestyles.
