This interdisciplinary format links dance with basketball in order to revive children’s and teenagers’ interest in becoming more mobile. The idea was developed by dancers at Tanzplattform Rhein-Main and basketball trainers at SKYLINERS e.V..

Tanz + Basketball machen Schule has been running since 2021 in the form of extra-curricular groups at primary and secondary schools in Frankfurt. 

It includes elements of various dance styles – ranging from urban dance to ballet –blended with basketball training. Basketball and dance are both rhythmic and encourage children to creatively and playfully put themselves to the test, exploring their own limitations. This combination creates new opportunities for children to discover just how much they can achieve for themselves. The extra-curricular groups are taught by tandem teams of basketball trainers and dance teachers. 

SKYLINERS e.V. works with around 3,000 pupils each week in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region through its Basketball macht Schule (Basketball goes to school) programme, which has been running since 2008. Thanks to an initiative of the Crespo Foundation and the Hesse Ministry of Culture, the club has now started cooperating with Tanzplattform Rhein-Main to create Tanz + Basketball machen Schule. Around 550 children have used the activity since then as a way of getting moving.
