TRANSCULTURAL MUSIC

BRIDGES-KAMMERORCHESTER (BRIDGES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA)

Art often adheres to cultural limitations, particularly in music. Yet something entirely new can be created from the diversity of different cultures, without having to sacrifice individual identities. This is the goal that motivated Bridges-Kammerorchester, as a social enterprise, to bring together musicians from various regions around the world who live in Germany.

Transcultural musical dialogue

The musicians of Bridges-Kammerorchester and their instruments all participate in a musical dialogue that is shaped by their individual cultural backgrounds. The chamber orchestra itself lies at the heart of the Bridges-Kammerorchester project. Its members compose and arrange pieces of music that allow their assorted identities to be heard. This leads to a completely new style of music depicting the heterogeneity of people living in Germany.

This makes Bridges-Kammerorchester a pioneer of a new musical language: contemporary transcultural music. The musicians also perform in other ensembles: Tiny Bridges, for example, plays concerts for families and children and is active in teaching transcultural music in schools.

High degree of artistic and integrative potential

Bridges-Kammerorchesters has received many awards, such as the 2022 Hessischer Integrationspreis and the German Record Critics’ Award. This socio- cultural enterprise is flourishing at the moment, with ever more concerts beyond the Frankfurt region. The Crespo Foundation has been supporting Bridges-Kammerorchester since 2022 on account of its integrative, artistic and musical potential.
