Glenkeen Garden Residencies
The Garden
‘A garden changes every day, just like life. What is there today will be different tomorrow, or may already have disappeared. But something new will take its place. This applies to us too. One thing has passed; somewhere else, something new is beginning.’

Ulrike Crespo designed Glenkeen Garden together with her partner Michael Satke and with the help of local English craftsmen, in a free, artistic process. The renowned Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf, who also designed New York’s High Line, was invited to create the large meadow of grasses and perennials. Alongside the designed areas, parts of the garden were left wild to give nature its own space.
The garden was Crespo’s place of inspiration and work. It was here that she created, among other things, her photo series ‘Unter der Haut des Wassers’ (Under water´s skin). Yet Crespo did not merely direct her own artistic gaze towards nature; she also repeatedly invited other photographers and artists to Glenkeen Garden. Consequently, the garden features sculptures by various artists, including Peter Kogler, Gunter Damisch, David Nash and Laura Ford.
It was Ulrike Crespo’s wish that Glenkeen Garden should remain a place for artists after her death. In 2021, two years after her death, this wish came true with the launch of the ‘Glenkeen Garden Residencies – ArtNature/NatureArt’.
